Masterbuilt Barrel Offset Smoker Review

.

The Masterbuilt Barrel Offset Smoker is another Masterbuilt smoker that has been creating a lot of buzz on this site. The reason is because of the ability to make great BBQ without having to make modifications to the smoker. Why buy a smoker that needs to be modified when  a reasonable priced smoker can be purchased that just works! Pictured below is the Masterbuilt Offset Smoker.

Note: the smoker being reviewed is the Masterbuilt Barrel Smoker / Grill (BG800) with a Masterbuilt Firebox (10100110). This is not the same Masterbuilt offset smoker that Sears or other stores sell. The Masterbuilt smoker purchased at Sears and other stores is smaller than taking a Masterbuilt Barrel Smoker (BG800) and adding Masterbuilt Firebox Masterbuilt Firebox (10100110).

Nice looking BBQ smoker, but the best part aboutf this smoker is that it can make great low and slow BBQ. Here are some of the best things about this smoker:

.

.

  • Proper Heat Flow. Most offset smokers have one problem: wasteful heat flow. This smoker has great heat flow because the air intake and exhaust are placed at the right place.
  • Grill options. Not only can this smoker be used as an offset smoker, but it can be used as a grill
  • Quality Firebox. The fire box is built well. This is important since hot coals will wear out a fire box fast.

As you can see, the Masterbuilt Offset Smoker is a great smoker / grill!!!!

Ratings for Masterbuilt Offset Smoker

.

Here is my quick ratings guide for the Masterbuilt offset Smoker. Note: 0 stars is worst and 5 stars is best.

.

Quality

Ease of usage

The Masterbuilt offset smoker grill gets an overall 4 out 5 stars. That is very good!!! For grilling this is an easy grill to use, but for smoking meat, this smoker is a little challenging and will take some experimenting to figure out how to make excellent low and slow BBQ. Note: all smokers take some time to figure out hotspots and learn how to control the smoker’s temperature. The bottom line is that if you want to grill and smoke using the same unit, the Masterbuilt offset smoker is worth the money.

Looking at the grates they look like they are cast iron, but this is just the finish of the porcelain.  These grates will last for a long time if cared for properly. Note: two grates are 16.375 in. Making the Masterbuilt Offset Barrel / Grill Smoker

.

Since Masterbuilt does not sell an offset smoker with a good firebox at this time, an Masterbuilt offset smoker needs to be created by:

buying a Masterbuilt Barrel Smoker / Grill (BG800) and

adding a Masterbuilt Firebox (10100110).

.
.

Here are some of my thoughts about the Masterbuilt barrel smoker with the firebox attachment:

  • They are large enough to cook for small parties or just family meals.
  • The exhaust pipe is located at the right place. Most barrel smokers have the exhaust located at one end on the top making it difficult to have even heat in the smoker.
  • It is easy to turn and mop the meat during the cooking process.
  • Can cook different types of meats without worrying about a meat’s drippings contaminating another meat.
  • The large barrel can be used as a grill

As you can see, if you need to smoke a lot of BBQ, the Masterbuilt offset smoker is a nice unit!!!..
